Green Engagement Rings: 7 Green Gemstones To Choose From
From Green Emerald To Green Tourmaline: Here Are The Best Green Gemstones For Engagement Rings
I am Sam. I am Sam.
Sam-I-Am, yes, that’s who I am!
Green eggs and ham! Oh, what a thing!
But do you like green engagement rings?
Pink engagement rings, blue engagement rings move aside. The spotlight is on the green engagement rings right now. Let’s get you introduced to 7 different green stones to set in your engagement ring.
The colour green is multifaceted.
One shade might evoke fresh cut grass, youth, nature, while a different shade of green just shouts “statement”. Think Grace Kelly in a flowing green dress, or Michelle Yeoh and her green emerald engagement ring in “Crazy Rich Asians” (and in real life!).
Use this as a lookbook guide to get an idea of what shade of green you love. This is gonna be fun. Lets go!
Green Emerald: each stone is a "garden" of green
Out of all the stones out there we would definitely say that emerald takes the cake for one of the most popular and well known green engagement rings out there. Green emeralds are really beautiful. They come in lab grown and natural, and the shade of green varies between the two!
Natural Emeralds
Natural green emeralds are often valued for their natural “inclusions”. The unique markings and milky clouds make each stone a garden of green.
If you’re considering a natural, you’re going to see differences in colour saturation, as well as differences in clarity of the milky factor. The same characteristic that makes the stone green, will also make it more “included”.
This is where we come in! During a stone viewing where you can compare green emeralds side by side, we’ll make sure we’re curating the top contenders. We always have our eyes out for a nice green saturation in colour, but not too included or too milky. We still want that vibrant green to be the focus. We usually like to get a feel for what your different options are, and figure out which would be best for you.
Lab Grown Emeralds
You’ll definitely get a lot more bang for your buck if you’re going with a lab grown emerald (Woooo!), which would be perfect if you wanna go bigger in the size of stone, or if you want to put more budget towards the ring design (adding side stones, custom band designs etc.) instead of locking it into the focal stone.
There will be some saturation differences from the lab grown emerald to the natural emerald.
When we are growing an emerald in the lab, the focus is on the colour. In order to achieve that characteristically saturated green emerald, there won’t be that milkiness that appears in naturals.. It’s a more consistent transparency and colour throughout the stone. With green emeralds, the visual difference between a lab grown vs natural is relatively visible, while most other stones such as diamonds are not as obvious.

Stone: Lab created emeralds are more consistently transparent throughout the stone, while natural emeralds have unique “gardens” of a combination of markings, milkiness, and colour variation.
The Green: A deep vibrant green that has stood the test of time, saturated, can vary in tone.
Green Sapphire: Sage Queen 👑
Sapphires carry a crown of honour with them as they have been loved by many throughout history, and they’re mostly known for being blue (think Princess Diana’s iconic oval blue sapphire that now resides on Kate Middleton’s ring finger). But! We actually have a ton of clients that want to incorporate their love of green and their love of sapphire into the same stone.
Hence, we bring you, the green sapphire. *cue cinematic big reveal music*
Take a look at this green sapphire. Notice how it’s got an almost sage colour to it. The green here is completely different from the emerald “kelly” green. It’s a different tone, different girl!
If we’re considering a lab grown green sapphire, you can expect that sage green to be pretty consistent throughout the stone. For your green sapphire engagement ring stone viewing we’d identify the shape you want, the budget to stay within, and use that information to curate the right stones for you to choose from. It’s also so much fun.

Natural Green Sapphire
What if you’re a purist and want a natural sapphire?
If you love the idea of having a unique green stone with its own characteristics – we’ll set you up with a natural.
Take a look at these green sapphires side by side.
When it comes to a lab grown sapphire, they’re uniform they’re optimized, standardized. It’s the same colour consistency all throughout.
With naturals there’s a lot of variation in the colour, even the tonality.

Green topaz: Go green, go big
In general, favouritism isn’t the best trait to have. However we do admit our favour toward topaz stones because they give us the opportunity to incorporate your love for the colour green and your love for a bigger stone.
Topaz is readily available all throughout the world and comes in every colour under the rainbow. In its purest form, it’s this crystal clear distilled white colour. This quality translates to the green, giving green topaz a bright true green – nice and clear.

Never the least: Green moissanite
Moissanites are often compared to diamonds, but they have their own thing going on.
Though majority of moissanites are now lab created, the original moissanite was discovered on a meteorite that fell from space.
The moissanite bends light more and faster than diamond does, giving that rainbow spectrum of sparkle. So when you take that and add colour to it, the moissanite engagement ring takes on an entire spectrum of the colour. You get glimmers of different shades of green with each glance.
